The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of primary health and community programs and has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

 

About the role

The Learning and Development Coordinator at the South West Aboriginal Medical Service Ltd (SWAMS) is responsible for planning, creating, and overseeing learning content to support the development of organisational capability. This role involves working closely with key stakeholders to identify learning requirements, ensuring that mandatory training, core competency training, and onboarding programs are delivered effectively and on time. The Learning and Development Coordinator will also provide support to learning delivery teams and oversee the online learning platform.

 

This role is highly integral to employees of SWAMS being appropriately skilled within their roles to ensure we provide the best service as an organisation working with local families. Your day will very extremely varied but will include:

  • Identify and implement skills development plans and programs which ensure a high degree of competence and determine career and succession planning for SWAMS staff
  • Coordinate regular skills development needs analysis
  • Record identified needs from performance reviews and implement relevant training in a timely manner
  • Ensure the focus of employee skills development, with particular emphasis on Aboriginal and Torres Islander staff, is maintained and continuously improved upon
  • Source and evaluate external training providers and negotiate competitive pricing
  • Contribute to the development of induction programs for employees and deliver induction courses to groups of employees
  • Coordinate SWAMS online Learning System currently provided through AMSED
  • Provide internal training programs as required
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of SWAMS’ traineeship program
  • Seek funding for SWAMS traineeships
  • Prepare reports on training effectiveness and costs

Essential Criteria

  • Cert IV Workplace Training and assessment or equivalent
  • Proven experience within a similar role
  • Understanding and a genuine appreciation of Indigenous people and culture
  • Capacity to map competencies and contextualise training to meet the specific training needs of SWAMS

Desirable Criteria

  • Tertiary Qualifications within Business or Health
  • Experience working within the health sector, aged care or non for profit.
