About SWAMS:

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service Ltd (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, founded on the principles of self-determination, empowerment and freedom of choice. Our mission is to provide high-quality, culturally appropriate, and holistic healthcare that builds strong and healthy Aboriginal communities. We act with integrity and are dedicated to excellence. We have over 200 staff here at SWAMS and are continuing to grow. We are actively working to "Close the Gap".

 

We operate out of the Greater Bunbury area, Mandurah, and have numerous clinics throughout the South West. We are looking for people in the Bunbury region.

About the opportunity:

As WHS Officer you will be responsible for the implementation of a Health and Safety best practice, ensuring that SWAMS complies with all current WHS legislation and recommendations under the Act. You will support SWAMS personnel in fostering a safety-first culture whilst ensuring any health and safety gaps are addressed in a timely and effective manner. Below is a snapshot of what your day will include:

  • Develop and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, manuals, and guidelines.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, hazards and near misses and recommend corrective actions
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement
  • Monitor and conduct regular WHS governance activities within SWAMS including, but not limited to, inspections, audits, safety document reviews, reporting breaches, recommending, and assisting in the close out of remedial actions
  • Implement control actions for identified hazards and risks
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety initiatives and interventions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and deliver training programs on safety protocols, emergency procedures and hazard recognition
  • Maintain accurate records for compliance

Essential Criteria

  • Strong working knowledge of relevant WHS legislation and the Act
  • Demonstrated experience in working in Work Health and Safety Management Systems
  • Ability to work within a team and effectively communicate to stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and improvement
  • Well developed attention to detail, analysing data and writing reports

Desirable Criteria

  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety or relevant industry experience
  • Experience in Injury Management
  • Cert IV in Training and Assessing or relevant industry experience
  • Ability to undertake research and implement contemporary WHS procedures
