Expression of Interest: Qualified Casual Community Support Worker with Certificate III in Individual Support at South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS)

SWAMS are seeking a number of dedicated and compassionate Community Support Workers who have completed their Certificate III in Individual Support to join our casual pool of Support Workers in Mandurah. Our casual pool of unqualified Support Workers is now full so qualifications are essential for this pool.

About the Role:

The Community Support Worker will play a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals within the community. This position requires a compassionate and empathetic individual who can effectively communicate and build relationships with the Aboriginal people in our area. The Community Support Worker will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the well-being and integration of individuals into the community. The role includes:

  • Working actively with clients as part of the aged care and community services team.
  • Implementing programs to enhance client skills, independence, and community participation.
  • Encouraging personal and social relationships among clients.
  • Liaising with elderly clients to promote engagement in home support and respite activities.
  • Encourage Elders to follow recommended referral processes for specialists and health checks.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with other health service providers.

Essential Criteria:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in aged and community care services.
  • Sound knowledge of the aged care and community sector, understanding of Aged Care Client Rights, Aged Care Accreditation Standards and Outcomes.
  • Knowledge of health and well-being issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a strong commitment to improving well-being outcomes.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work autonomously and display initiative, self-motivation, time management and solution focused skills.
  • Current “C” class driver’s licence.

Desirable Criteria

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent under section 50(d) Equal Opportunity Act.
  • A certificate or tertiary qualification in Community Services, Aged Care or similar field.
  • Current knowledge of legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Services, Occupational Safety and Health and how these impact on employment and service delivery.
